How do you find out the Active Node in a SQL Server 2000 Cluster? Any Ideas?

Open the cluster manager on one of the servers. start -> programs -> admin tools -> cluster manager. It will tell you wich node is active.

Thanks Paul, I was actually wondering if I can programatically get the active node by using a query

Not that I'm aware of. In SQL 2005 you can query for the list of nodes via the sys.dm_os_cluster_nodes view.

Any reason that you are trying to find the node name? It shouldn't matter which node SQL is running on.

Thanks for the response Guys! I found it ... you have to query fn_virtualservernodes and whichever node it returns first is most likely the active node.
