SQL Server Browser Question

Hello,
The company I work for has Microsoft SharePoint Installed, and the ldf files have become too big. The only way I have found to reduce the size of these files involves using SQL Server Management Studio Express (which the server has). However, I cannot log in to this program because the server does not have SQL Server Browser installed. I was wondering how to get this?

I didn't think you needed SQL Browser if you are running the Studio on the server itself. You might need it if you are trying to connect remotely, from a Studio on another PC/server (the SQL Server would also need to be configured for remote connections), but not locally.

Someone else might correct me...

Do you get a specific error trying to connect using the Studio? If so give the details as it may help provide an answer.

Browser would be required is the SQL Instance was a named instance and you were trying to use TCP to connect.

If the LDFs are getting large you have two options.

1. Begin doing transaction log backups on a regular schedule
2. Change the database from FULL recovery to SIMPLE recovery (you won't be able to restore the database to a point in time after doing this).

Any other action to resolve the issue isn't the correct action to take.
