Hi,
In SQL Server, when we right-clink on a database and then go to All Tasks |Backup Database does this backup just the structure and objects or does is back up the data also..I think its nor b'cos there is a "Import Data" option also?

All I am trying to do this take this database from my office and put it in my home PC, so that I can work from home too..on this database..!

How can I do this?

thanks

It backs up the entire database; tables, data, stored prcedures, triggers,...everything...

Provided you have SQL Sever installed and running at home, you can back up the database and restore it on your home machine.

Hope This Helps!

While there may be other ways to do it, I find the best (easiest) way to make a portable backup is to create a backup dataset, explicitly back up your database (via EM) into that dataset and then put the resultant file onto CD.

Then, you can (again using EM) do a restore from device onto the other server. Click the "Add Device" button and specify the CD file as the source for your restore. You will have to go into the 'Option' panel of the restore form to give a new location to the database (unless the mappings on your PC at home are the same as those of the initial server). Otherwise, the restore WILL FAIL.
