Hello all,

I have a question which Microsoft and noone else has yet been able to answer.

Microsoft has a new licensing schema where the OS licenses are Anonymous or Authenticated. If you are not using any part of the 'Windows Integrated Sign-on Service' or Active Directory then you can go with Anonymous. Otherwise you must use Authenticated.

However once you install SQL Server it is my understanding that you are automatically in an Authenticated area, regardless if you use Mixed Mode authentication or not.

Does anyone have any info, insight or any experience with this?

Thanks!
Michelle

Who did you contact at Microsoft? if it was a support or sales then they probably wouldn't know. You should try to contact someone in their compliance and licensing department, if you haen't. After all if MS can't answer how can anyone else be expected to.

Never heard of this myself but have passed it on for comment.

From a knowledgable person

Judging by what I think your question might be, you will probably need an
appropriate number of SQL Server CALs, or use per-processor licencing, even
if the users are not authenticating when viewing your web-app. If the users
are authenticating to the web app using Windows auth, you will also need
Windows CALs.

From a microsoft person (who is also knowledgable):

They need to talk to their local sales office, period. SQL Server licensing
is difficult enough and when you throw another product into the mix, forget
about it.

Sorry!
