I have been told that it's 'best practice' to NOT have any other application on the same server as SQL Server.

Is this true? Can someone point me to 'official' documentation that says that?

My bosses want to add other applications to my server and I'm saying it's a bad idea. So of course they want it in writing from an official source.

Thanks for any help with this.

The reason is mainly due to the processor and memory usage, minorly hard drive usage. any that you put on it will retract from sql server being able to use it.

I tend to keep everything off it if i can. but as a case by case basis, you need to check it out. thourghly test it out to see what the real impact will be. if your machine is powerful enough and not being heavly utalized, you could proably put something else on it. but if your running fairly heavy right now, i would do it.

im not sure if i have ever seen an offical statment on it, its just something that is generally accepted

I've seen one website where they talk about it, but mostly they say 'as mentioned elsewhere on this website' and I can't find the elsewhere (this was for I've seen it somewhere before, I just can't remember where so I was hoping that someone on this site would know where I can find the information.

Oh well, I'll keep looking.
