We are about to use crystal reports 10 or beyond to create reports and deploy them using a scheduler. They are to be web based reports and we have chosen dreamweaver as the editor.

1. If you are running windows xp, doesnt microsoft provide a method of installing an IIS server on your local machine. I am not sure how to find it.

2. Our boss located a freeware program that can be used as a scheduler. Doesnt microsoft have a scheduler, I believe its called microsoft sphere that can be used as a scheduler. Is this a separate application and seperate cost?

3. If using crystal reports for design of the reports, can we bypass visual studio and create the reports in crystal, link them using dreamweaver and connect them to our web server for eventual deployment?

4. Based on what I have said, any websites you recommend to get more information.

I ask because we have been deploying reports via desktop using an internal reporting queue that runs reports. We then email the reports to users. Obviously were moving to an automated web deployment so I am trying to get a feel for a good starting point. I am already familiar with designing reports using crystal reports as a stand alone application, not within visual studio. I am also familiar with dreamweaver, primarily using it as a php editor to create online databases. In terms of the office environment, we are running microsoft server 2005 which also has a visual studio component.

I probably won't be much help, but....

1. If you are running windows xp, doesnt microsoft provide a method of installing an IIS server on your local machine.

It depends on the version of Windows XP. Only Windows XP professional includes IIS.

Start -> Control Panel -> Add or remove programs
(on the left) Add/Remove Windows Components
Select "Internet Information Services (IIS)" from the list.

2. Our boss located a freeware program that can be used as a scheduler. Doesnt microsoft have a scheduler, I believe its called microsoft sphere that can be used as a scheduler. Is this a separate application and seperate cost?

Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Scheduled Tasks

I don't know much about crystal reports. Hope this helps.
