SQl Server Agent Will not auto start?

We have a SQL Server box that used to be in a cluster environment. It was a 2 node cluster. The other node was removed, but the cluster service are still running on this box. By the way this is a W2k SQL2K setup. When the server
is restarted SQL Server Agent does not start even though it is set to auto start. It will start manually after the server starts without a problem. When you look in event viewer it says: "The SQLSERVERAGENT service depends on the
MSSQLSERVER service which failed to start because of the following error: %%0." But when you check MSSQLSERVER, the service will be running. I also noticed that in the SQLAGENT.out log there is an entry that says: "SQL Server
MSSQLSERVER is clustered - AutoRestart has been disabled"
I do not know if that means anything. Any help will be appreciated.

You may want to have the SQL Server Agent restart when the SQL Server service starts. To accomplish this, take a look about a 1/3 of the way do this thread ... thread962-789532, it has code to run that will create an SP that will start the SQL Server Agent service every time SQL Server starts.

"Maybe" this may overcome your issue.

ok, here are some things to check. The SQL Server Agent and SQL Server service should be set to manual. They will be started by the Cluster Service. It sounds like the SQL Server agent setup within the cluster service isn't setup correctly. Make sure that it's in there and depends on the MSSQLSERVER, and that it's set to automatic. You will need to do this within the Cluster Administrator not the Services control pannel.
