i have a database for a company running on sql srv 7. There are two databases over 1 gig each. They work fine but on reports it takes forever to generate. I do see 40 to 100 locks on database but not much is happening on there while its running the reports. I know that there is a limit set on desktop editions. Is ther a way for sql 7 desktop to tune it so it will run faster? w/o upgrades. I got 3 gigs of ram and raid 5 with dual cpu's. The hardware can handle it how can i seep up the databases??

Locks are normal when running large queries. You'll want to take a look at the exucation plan of the queries and see if there are any indexes which need to be added.

You may also want to look at upgrading to SQL 2000 or SQL 2005 as both have may improvments which will speed up your query.
