I'm an Oracle DBA very new to SQL Server. Am failing to install SSDB 2012 on Lenovo laptop w 4gb ram,750 gb HD (non-partitioned), running win7 pro sp1. During the installation I ran the installation as LenovoT61\Ray - and added that name during the install as a user administrator. That is my laptop logon and I also specified windows authentication. The only thing I did not do is start the install with the 'run as administrator ' option. Iam submitting this to the forum here but I WILL try the 'run as administrotor ' option for the install as well.

The error log has message
"2012-12-10 15:41:52.23 spid7s Error: 5178, Severity: 16, State: 1.
2012-12-10 15:41:52.23 spid7s Cannot use file 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.CSDWH\MSSQL\DATA\master.mdf' because it was originally formatted with sector size 4096 and is now on a volume with sector size 3072. Move the file to a volume with a sector size that is the same as or smaller than the original sector size."

I have failed with this install several times and previously had the SSDB 2012 install working and removed it.

THe window popup error message window I get at te end of the install is 'Fatal error 0x80070643 during installation wait on the database recovery handle field '[I may have the wording slightly wrong on this but the error code is correct]

I ran the following in DOS and it shows the sector size is 4096 in the directory mentioned in the error message log above. I am confused and out of ideas as the errormessage sector info conflictswith thesector size as shown by the cmd utility - and I do not know ifthis is the cause of the installation failure..

Some of the errors I've seen related to this were due to Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver - if you have it try reinstalling it, even if it says it is up to date

In attempting to download an updated Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver from the Lenovo support webpage, the doc with the drivers indicate the driver available is not a replacement for the driver I have on the laptop. Also -Properties of the drivers indicate the drivers are working properly.
