I used to use Visio to make my database diagrams when I used SQL Server 2000. I cannot get the ODBC connection with Visio to connect to SQL Server 2005. Has anyone made a SQL Server 2005 diagram with Visio 2003?

schwarem,

Wow, SQL2005, I am used to not getting the current upgrades until someone finds them in sombody elese's trash.

Not yet with 2005, but you and I can research what might have changed between these versions. I think there was 2003 in between aslo.

Will post back with findings

schwarem,

Guess I should have asked what version of SQL2005 you have, as MS has several flavors with some limitations. I could not locate any specific glitches reported yet for ODBC. Previously, the OBDC driver versions did exhibit compatibility problems at times.

You didn't state if you can generate the link & it fails, or if you can not establish the link at all.

Here are several links to similar problems that may or may not apply. Look them over to see if you think they apply & post back with your determination & maybe the specific behaviour you are/not seeing. And maybe another contributor has current SQL version to recreate the problem?

You may not be able to connect to an instance of SQL Server that is configured to use the TCP/IP server network library on a computer that is running Windows XP Service Pack 2

Potential causes of the "SQL Server does not exist or access denied" error message

You may receive a "Permission denied" error message when an application role-based application tries to select records from any one of the system tables in a SQL Server 2005 master database

I am using the standard version of SQL Server 2005. There isn't any problem with the ODBC driver itself, but there isn't a native ODBC driver for Visio. I got it working with the generic driver, but it doesn't work as well as the driver did for SQL Server 2000.
