After upgrading from 2K to 2005, I have both the SSMS and Enterprise Mgr. Does this mean my upgrade didn't work or this is normal?

I believe that's normal. The upgrade converts the databases, etc NOT the client tools. So you now have two sets of client tools. Why? Well how is the upgrade tool to know for sure that you don't have other instances of SQL Server 2000 that you didn't want to upgrade? If you don't want Enterprise Manager and the rest of SQL Server 2000 client tools, just uninstall them.

i don't think this is normal. why? because when you upgrade you include the client tools so its supposed to upgrade Enterprise Mgr to SSMS. but i guess this is not how they design the upgrade.

It is normal behavor to not upgrade the tools.

The tools don't get upgraded, they got replaced. SQL Server 2005 can be installed side by side with SQL Server 2000.

How would Microsoft know if you have a SQL Server 7 machine which you need to manage? If they removed the SQL Server 2000 tools you won't be able to manage your SQL Server 7 instance any more. And yes there are still lots of companies using SQL Server 7.

SQL Bill is correct....... you upgraded the Server side, not the client side.........

The staff I support chose to keep their exsisting Enterprise manager for legacy databases and are using the SQL Dev Edition on their workstations to develop with
