I have a laptop with Windows 7 pro. I already installed Office 2007 and then sorta installed SQL 2005. I had OS issues and installed the SQLServer2005SP3-KB955706-x64-ENU.exe Service Patch. There was also a SQLServer2005SP3-KB955706-IA64-ENU.exe but from what I read it had to do with a Chip set or something.

Anyhow, now when I open SQL Studio it assumes I have a Vista OS and says it requires a 2005 Update.

I'm also planning on installing Visual Studio 2008 but want to make sure I don't screw things up even more.

Can anyone please assist me in what I should do?

Thanks much.

P.S. After all these years you'd think Microsoft would explain their patches better. Ugh!

You say you 'sorta installed' SQL 2005. What do you mean you 'sorta installed' it? Did you or didn't you?

I suggest uninstalling it, reinstall SS2005, once you have it installed, check that it works and then install Service Pack 2. SP3 is just out, so once you have everything working with SP2 you might want to go ahead and run SP3.
