I recently went to do an install of AAS 5.3A and realized that the client did not have SQL Server 2000 installed. I got a email quote from my Microsoft rep for SQL Server and 8-CALs.

The quote is actually for SQL Server 2005!! Does anyone have any experience using it with ACCPAC Advantage? How compatible is it with SQL Server 2000? More importantly, will the SQL Server LANPAK work with it?

Most important of all does the application (ACCPAC) even run on SQL Server 2005 and if so is it supported? This is the first thing you need to confirm.

It runs fine on SQL 2005, no issues.

Thanks, Jay...you do seem to know your ACCPAC! Sometimes my emails to ACCPAC seem to get lost in the mail, and this client is anxious to get started.

I've only been doing Accpac since '89, it comes with the territory. :)

I just did a SQL05 install last week. Aside from the new look to Enterprise Manager, to Accpac it's the same product.

I am now going to ask a STUPID question and I actually expect to get a reply. I have recently foraged into ACCPAC and I have never (until now)installed the SQL Server version so please bear with me.

Does ACCPAC sell SQL Server licences?

Do not mistake that question for :

"Do you need to have a licence with ACCPAC for every client that connects to the database?", beacause as far as I am concerned, that's what a LanPak is. Or is it that the LanPak has, like, embedded SQL Server? (which I doubt). Well, you can't say it doesn't sound like a stoopid question!

My boss just told me that my firm has prices from ACCPAC for SQL Server licences; it's just that I am not seeing that info on the ACCPAC Business Partner list. And, the fact that I am just 3 months at the firm with the guys who actually knew ACCPAC leaving practically the day I arrived means that a lot of the stuff that relates to the job are just not available. And until I actually pass the exam, ACCPAC is reluctant to assist me. :[

Accpac SQL Lanpaks are independent of MSSQL licenses. You're supposed to get equal numbers, but since Accpac connects using a single SQL login, it will run fine without it. In other words, you could have a 50 Accpac Lanpaks, and 10 SQL CALS, and it would still run. Just don't tell the legal department...
