I have setup four mainteance plans for a SQL Server 2000, since the server is only used as a Warm Standby I setup the maintenance plan for the system datatabases only. The problem is that the plan's executed without problem until two weeks ago and now they are failing with the error,

Memory allocation failure. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 22030). The step failed.

Can anybody help me find out what is causing this problem?

Hi

Have a look at the following link.

As the article says a step in the job might have failed but not the entire maintenance plan. Often certain things will fail but others won't in a job but the job in Enterprise Manager will show as failed.

I have job which calls a proc which does an insert and 3 update statements against the same tables. Often the insert fails due to the data being duplicated and being inserted into a primary key table. We pull data from another system and often their data is not as they make it out to be.
But the 3 updates work fine.

If the above article doesn't answer your question then you could go down the following route if you have "Attempt to repair any minor errors" selected.( This always causes issues)

Hope this helps

John

seems like the failed jobs aren't logging anything anywhere. maybe it really is a memory problem.

I would have a look in the NT Event Logs to see if you can find an NT logged error relating to the problem.

his is the only message in the NT Event Viewer's Application log

SQL Server Scheduled Job 'DB Backup Job for DB Maintenance Plan 'System Database Backup Plan'' (0xEA149FA688A12141A4A8A94B141D1447) - Status: Failed - Invoked on: 2003-05-30 10:29:10 - Message: The job failed. The Job was invoked by User USTRESACC\LeppJ. The last step to run was step 1 (Step 1).

The system log doesn't show anything, I would think that if this is an actual hardware problem, it would show up here. Also, I am able to run some of the maitenance plan manually.
