Hi everyone!

I have a silly question. I haven't been able to find the answer yet (short of calling Microsoft) so I'm hoping someone can help.

Is it possible to still buy SQL Server 2000 licenses?

Thanks!

Yes if you look hard enough. You would be better off buying SQL 2005 and installing SQL 2000 under your down grade rights. This way you are ready to upgrade when you are able to.

2008 is out soon, i would buy that and use downgrade rights! :)

2008 isn't slated for release until Q3 of 2008. If you can't wait go with SQL 2005 and downgrade, however SQL 2005 does cost more than SQL 2000.

We talked to the clients and we're going to go with SQL 2005. I just wanted to be sure just in case they insisted on 2000. As for 2008, it'll be a while before we go there. :) We purchased many licenses for 2005 sometime ago and are trying to migrate to 2005 from 2000. We have 100+ departments/agencies and only two DBAs so it's taking us a while. :) Thanks anyway!
