I have an SQL Server 2000 machine installed years go.
The guy who installed it left years ago and nobdoy knows wher the licence documents are ( Eeek! )
It is a per processor licece. Is there a way of transferring the licence to another server?
you only need a product key off the CD case. The processor license is a piece of paper only. If audited, then you would have to show the processor license, if you are configured to use more than one processor.
If it was installed from a retail package then you just need the key. Power down the old machine, and install on the new machine with the new key.
If you installed via a MLV then you don't need a key to install so you just need to power down and power back up. Make a note on the paper license of the transfer (or what ever you use to track your licenses).
Make sure that when you transfer you have the same number of CPUs (or less).
