Trying to upgrade a machine from SQL 2000 (no patches) to SP3a. However, after putting in service pack 3a, the machine reported an error: "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this machine. Setup will now exit

The machine was installed with MSDE. We ran command: setup sapwd="Strong password" instance =

Notice that taking out instance continued the same problem. Very odd...
