i have a windows xp home edition pc at home.i would like to run sql server database on it and develop some applications. Can i be able to do that with sql server 2000 developer edition? thank you.

i saw that it can run on XP home, but can it run just as a sql server client or as an actual server? thanks for your answers.

???
It is almost the same as enterprise but without the licence.
It includes the client tools and is the full server version you just cannot use it as a commercial system due to the licence.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.
Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy.

I read from MS website that SQL Server evaluation edtition can run on XP Home edition but when I tried to install it it returns an InstallShield error. Anyone encountered this problem ?

nightcat915,

First you should have started your own thread....this one ended several months ago and was on a different subject.

As for your question: does your XP Home meet all the requirements:

Memory: Evaluation Edition: 64 MB; 128 MB recommended

Hard Disk: Enterprise, Standard, Evaluation, Developer, and Personal Editions require:

• 95–270 MB of available hard disk space for the server; 250 MB for a typical installation.
• 50 MB of available hard disk space for a minimum installation of Analysis Services; 130 MB for a typical installation.
• 80 MB of available hard disk space for English Query.
