Hey gang, I'm new here and am in need of some help. I have a question about creating a role for a user in my database. I want to create a user defined role with the minimum appropriate permissions to allow a user to import and export data. When I try to create a new database role, I select permissions to try and restrict what a user can do. I am faced with a whole bunch of objects that I'm not sure what their function is. Am I going about this the correct way? Please help!

When they import, do you want to have them delete existing data? If not the simple solution is to give them read and insert priveleges on the table they want to import and export from

Thanks for the reply. No delete permissions is necessary.

I'm new to SQL Server, but not new to computers. I've been working as a pc repair tech but I'm trying to expand into other areas.

The best place to start looking is in the Books OnLine that come with SQL Server. Go to Start > Microsoft SQL Server > Books OnLine.

You can either read through the contents listing or use the Index tab to find what you are looking for.
