Can a person have Enterprise Manager and work with SQL Server and also have SQL Sever 2005 (not sure what the interface would be) on the same machine and bounce back and forth?

The reason I ask is because I want to do my production work on 2000 and do some testing on 2005 all on the same machine.

Thanks in advance.

In short, Yes. You can have both instances running on the same machine as long as there are no name conflicts

I have both versions (the developer versions) installed on my computer. I haven't had any problems.

If you already have sql 2000 on your computer, the install for SQL 2005 will be installed as a named instance.

Thanks for the reponses.

So I just go into EM and create an instance referencing the 2005 box?

No. When you install SQL 2005 (and the client tools for it), there will be the new 'SQL Server Management Studio'. It is Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer combined in to the single tool.

Great. Where do I go to get the SQL 2005 (and the client tools for it)?

Call up Bill Gates and promise to give him money. [smile]

If you don't have the wallet (or patience) for this, you can download SQL Server Express (for free).

If I'm not mistaken, the developer edition costs approximately $50. A quick google search should find it for you. With the developer edition, you are not allowed to host a production database, but you can use it to develop your app.
