We had one of our development servers die. We got a new hard drive for it and installed windows 2000 server and everything else it needed onto it.
I'm trying to restore the SQL2000 databases back to the machine but i'm getting the following error:

Unable to attach to server.
A network connection to the device could not be established.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^

Does anybody know what is causing this and how i can resolve the issue ? I need to get these databases back onto the server.

Thanks

Helen

Helen,
I'm assuming you have a license for the SQL 2000 Agent. And that you are atempting a db restore to a remote server. If so, then verify that you have the MS SQL 2000 client tools installed on backup server. Then attemp the following restore steps:

Restoring a SQL Server Database Using a Database Backup Only
For Microsoft SQL Server v7.0 or later, if you have performed database backups only, then
restore a database backup to return the database to the state it was in when that backup
was created. The only difference is that all transactions that were not complete when the
backup finished are rolled back.
To restore a database using a database backup only:
Note When restoring a Microsoft SQL Server v7.0 or later database, make sure that no
one else is using the database. Use SQL Server Enterprise Manager to enable the
database option single user. This limits access to the selected database to one user
connection.
1. Choose your restore selections and restore defaults by following the steps in
“Submitting Microsoft SQL Server Restore Jobs” on page 712.
2. On the SQL tab in the Restore Job Properties dialog box, make sure the Recover
Database option is selected.
If the Recover Database option is not selected, the database is in an intermediate state
and is not usable.
3. Restore the database backup.
