SQL Restore from DAT file

Here is the deal I have a backup of 3 SQL databases done with BE 8.6 for W2k. The problem is that these are DAT files. I was wondering if there is a way to restore these DAT files to a new copy of SQL? I have sent them to the new SQL server but see no way of restoring them to a working database? Any help is appreciated.
