Hi. I work in an office of around 40 people. We have one main server A compaq proliant ML370 G2 1.4 Ghz P III 512 MB RAM. It is server 2003 standard, the domain controler and file and print server. It runs as steady as a rock touch wood. My question is do you think it would be okay to install SQL server standard on it also, to be the back end for a not too complex app which is currently an access DB system?

The specs of the server fall well within those specified by microsoft. Any advice appreciated.

SQL Server can consume serious amounts of memory and CPU. When ever posible I recomend that it be on a dedicated SQL Server. Also, I would never install sql on you domain controler! IMO, don't install SQL on this server.

for 40 concurrent users? yes it can...I would add more than 512 MB of memory. Push it up to 2 gb if you can.

The desktop I have in mind will have 2GB memory and be a core 2 duo. That should be okay? Will it run fine on XP proffesional or would it be best to put server 2003 on the desktop?
