Hi! I am not an SQL guru by a longshot, so please bear with me. My knowlede is how to schedule and maintain a backup and that's it.

Using SQL 7.0. Have a working DB. When I go to Enterprise Manager to perform a manual backup, I get the following:

1)(something like, off the top of my head here)DBXXX is not running, would you like to run it now? This happens when I click on the cylinder to open up the DBs. However, the DB is in good running order.

2)When I click OK to move forward, I am able to make a full backup with now problem (verified on disk), however, when I do, there is a "red squiggley line" going through the cylinder for that specific DB.

So, with #1....if it runs fine, why would it say it is not?
And, for #2, what is the red line going through the cylinder?

Again, the manual backup that is performed every day runs fine and has been verified just to be sure. Any possible solutions / answers to this would be great. Thanks!

1. This is a connection issue with Entprise Manager. No big deal. I forget if one of the patches fixes that issue or not.

2. The red squiggly line means there is a connection.

Does SQL have a "windows update" type deal? If so, any step by step would be greatly appreciated. Also, the red line through the cylinder never showed up before until recently which was a concern of mine. Maybe the update fixes this? Thanks again!

2. Mine has always had the red squiggly line. Are you sure you just haven't noticed it before.

1. There's no 'windows update' for SQL Server. You need to go to Microsoft's web site and see what's available.

For SQL 7, the latest version (@@version) will show: 7.00.1144 which is SP 4 and Q830233.

Here is a great site for figuring out the @@version information:

Click on FAQs/Docs and select the SQL Server Version Database.
