In Enterprise Manager under Console Root, it is possible to open Query Analyzer when you click the "Microsoft SQL Servers" node or the "SQL Server Group". Then you choose which SQl Server you want.

How do I prevent a Server from appearing in the SQL Server dropdown box on the Connect to SQL Server window? I do not want users or developers to execute queries on this server.

The only way I can think of is to restrict access via security but the Server will still show in the box.

Any other ways?

Thanks!
Alan

Alan,
In enterprise manager if a user can open QA from the tools menu option. If they are in a databse it will open QA to that database.

I don't know of anyway to prevent a user from seeing the db server on the network or in the drop down.

I would put the developers that you don't want to have query access in a group and deny them data reader rights.

Thanks ptheriault:

I thought that denying rights via security is the only way to go.
