Few questions on Profiler
1.Is SS Profiler an overhead to the database? Meaning if I run multiple profilers, are they going to affect the DB performance?
2.If we have multiple profilers are running, is there a way to identify the trace file, if trace is saved into a file?
3.Can I run a trace for a user? Meaning, to trace a particular user activity?

TIA,

Yes, Profiler is a resource hog. It will affect performance of the database.

Yes, you can name trace file or save them to a table in any database.

Can I run a trace for a user? Meaning, to trace a particular user activity?

Yes, While setting up the trace you can enter criteria to trace on. From database to user.

What version are you using.

Thanks Paul.
We are using sql05.
Could you tell me how to identify the trace file? I know if I set up the trace, I know the location of the file but if there are multiple traces are running, can I locate the trace file(s)?
Could you give some details how to set up a profile for an user in a database?

TIA

Could you tell me how to identify the trace file?
When you start a new trace.
On the General Tab you select "Save to File" or "Save to Table" You must do that for each trace.

Could you give some details how to set up a profile for an user in a database?
Select the Events Selection tab from the Trace Properties window when you start a trace.
On the bottom right select Column Filters
This is where you can specify what you what to have in your trace.
