SQL*Plus 3.3 versus SQL*Plus 8.0

I am executing a script to create a package from a SQL*Plus 3.3 prompt. While running, I receive the error:
"command buffer space exhausted"

However, when I execute the same command from SQL*Plus 8.0, I do not get the error and the package is created. Both SQL*Plus 3.3 and SQL*Plus 8.0 have the same environmental settings. Why is this happening? [sig][/sig]
