Hi,

I have SQL 7 which Ive ben running for about 6 years. I backup all the databases including the Master. However the Master database recorded size for the online one is just 12MB. When its backed up to disk it goes to 8GB ????? This is hugh and also takes time and space - why is it so large ??? ANyone got any ideas ?? I thought this just stores SQL Users names and Security Info - why does it expand so ??

Thanks

Ed

Why dont you delete the current Master db backup file and backup again, it should come upto normal size. Some case I have seen when you append the backups to older devices the file keep growing. May be some other experst can shed some light what the casue behin it.

Good Luck.

Did someone change the recovery from full recovery?

What if you do a backup database command to a new file and see how large the file gets.

Thanks all!!

It was because the file was being appended too - that makes two years of daily backups - woohoo. I could have sweared I had tried the above method but obviosuly not. The script was written differently for this backup making it append rather than overwwirte.

Thanks
