Hello,

I am having problems finding instances of SQL servers from servers which are on different subnets of my LAN.
When I try to connect it sees the server but not the instance. When on the same subnet both server and instance is shown.

I am using SQL 2005 Standard edition only for all installations on Windows 2003. Remote connections is allowed on all servers within the LAN.

Protocols enabled are TCP/IP, Named Pipes is disabled as It is not needed.

SQL browser is running.

The finding of SQL Servers is flaky at best, especially on a large network.
