running the sp_spaceused the following return:
db size 48426.75 MB
unallocated space 8098.20 MB.

My question is will the db size continue to growth if I add more data, and leave the unalloactaed space alone or the new data will used the unalloacted space? If not, what % would you recommend on leaving the free space if shrink database is run.

thanks

If you right click on the database and select properties. Click on the files page.
1. Is Autogrow turned on?
2. what is the growth % or MB.

It will always keep that % or MB free in your datafile.

I beg to differ of this point. SQL will use all the page in the data file, then when it fills the file it will extend the file by the amount (or percentage) which the autogrow is set to.

As Paul asked...
