I've used SQL Express for in-house projects since its release, but now I've been asked if it is possible to use it for the backend database for our public-use website.

I was under the impression that this wasn't allowed, but having performed some Google searches, I can't find this info. Am I getting myself confused... is it just the Developer Edition that can't be used?

I'm aware of the restrictions to DB size and hardware use (i.e. 1 CPU, 1GB RAM etc.).

Thanks in advance for your assistance with this matter...

Neil

Through my continued searching, I've been unable to find anything that says I am unable to use this on a production server as the database backend for our website.

So I guess we are good to go!!

SQL Express is just fine for production use as long as you don't need a database over 4 Gigs or the SQL Agent or SSIS.

Developer edition is only one which can not be used for production use.
