Can anybody please help me with the following. I'm new as a SQL dba and on one of our servers I'm getting the following in my SQL logs. It happens about every 10 to 15 seconds.

DBCC TRACEON 208, server process ID (SPID) 166.

What does TraceOn 208 means?
If the trace is switched on, are you not supposed to switch it off again?

Thanks
Gys

DBCC TRACEON 208 means "SET QUOTED IDENTIFIER ON." The messages ae information only. They do not indicate an error or problem.

If you want to prevent these messages from appearing in the error log, you can use trace flag 2505 as a startup parameter. See the following article for details.
