im running a site for a client and there are a few relatively simple database applications that provide some dynamic functionality, press releases, search, etc. - nothing too complex (yet)...
Were really getting AWESOME traffic - our log files have gone from 20 or so MB per day up to days like one we had last week, where that days' log file was 400+ mb in size...
My question is can access databases continue to be what we use or are there issues that would make a sql database the better option?
What are the basic differences with regard to capability and complexity?
Costs?
The huge spike in activity (first experienced last week - but will probably be occuring once / twice weekly) "hosed" the server (depleting memory, etc.) according the web site host (whom I think may be trying to cover his own end!) and as such had to be re-booted... could this depletion in resources be tied to us using the wrong database for the level of traffic were getting?
help?
Thanks.
