I have 4 regions: West, Mid-west, East, and South.
I have 3 warehouses in each region.
Currently, I have 1 dimension with the levels Region and Warehouse. The problem is that when looking through the data I always have to drill through the region level to look at a warehouse. And when I use a ProClarity report, I always have to deal with the region piece as I drill up and down the dimensions.
What I would like is to have a region dimension and a separate warehouse dimension. That way I could have the region if I want them, with the warehouses below them or skip the region piece and just show warehouses when appropriate.
The problems I've run into are:
When I make 2 separate star schema dimensions, Regions appear to contain every warehouse, not just the warehouses within that region (they have no data, but appear).
Parent - Child sounded good at first, but found it is for a something like a warehouse/subwarehouse relationship, not what I was looking for.
I'm out of ideas, but this seems like a common issue. I don't know how to get around it though.
Thank you in advance for your help.
