SQL cube Date is recognized as Character in BO

We are using the SAP BO version 12.3.0.601.

I am using BO for reporting from a SQL cube. But BO Designer detects date fields as Character. Please see the attached Word document which explains the issue with snapshot images form BO.

Any help is highly appreciated.
