I am getting this error message when trying to connect to the database engine.

[Pervasive][ODBC Client Interface][Client LNA]The ODBC Client Interface cannot access the data source because SQL Connection Manager is not running at the specified port number. Contact your system administrator for assistance.10065

When I view the currently used TCPIP portnumber it says: 1583.

How can I check what portnumber should I use??

Anyone help please !!!

The default port number is 1583 for both the client and the server. Unless you've changed it, that's probably what it's set to. You can verify that the server is listening on the port by issuing a netstat -a at a command prompt and look for 1583. If you see it listed, it could be that the relational part of the engine isn't running. Make sure the relational engine has been started on the server.

Thanks Mirtheil!!

I checked and both the relational and transactonal services are up and running on the server. Issuing the netstat command I could verify the portnumber 1583. However issuing the same command on my laptop(client) I don't see this number appear!
My ODBC settings include the tcpip portnumber 1583.
I am still getting the same error number!!

Maybe I will have to restart the services on the server??

I wouldn't expect the port to be open on the client. It's only going to be open on the server.
One thing you should try would be the PSA (Pervasive System Analyzer). It'll give you more information about the network and will even test the network.
