We made a change to our SQL 7.0 Server from 6.5 Compatibility to SQL 7.0 compatibility and afterwards we have been having problems with Random Locking on tables in our Application. We have since change the compatibility back to SQL 6.5 but the problems continue. (I do not know if this change back took affect?)

It seems like a Row level locking vs. Page Level locking problem but do not know how to confirm and fix.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to check if this is the problems and ways to fix it if it is the problem?

Thanks for your help,

Thomas.

Have not got ideas on fixing but to check the compatibily setting use query analyser and run this to return the current setting.

sp_dbcmptlevel @dbname = myDbname

If you look in SQL BOL for sp_dbcmptlevel it gives a good summary of the differences in these settings (at least it does in sql 2000) - does not seem to be anything about locking. And I dont recall any problems like this when I changed from 6.5 to 70
