SQL Backup of Databse when Desktop Edition is installed

Hi all,

I have a server which is basically about to die due to failed RAID. I will be shortly installing a new server. On the soon to be dead server there is SQL running as I get the service manager in the bottom right. I can see there is usual Backup Exec instance running but there is also another database running which is essential to the company.

The SQL installation looks to be Desktop Edition as I can't find Enterprise Manager through the All Programs Menu or by searching for the MSC plug in.

What is the best way to get this database backed up given I can't access Enterprise Manager or use Backup Exec because of the poor hardware condition it is in.

Connect to the instance from a different server that has EM on it or even your local machine if it does. If you don't have EM then install it. browse for the server and register it in EM and then do your backup.

If Analyzer is on the server or some other one you can run the BACKUP transaction also which is a easy way to get it done

I know nothing about backup exec sense sql does a better job at handling backup/restores. It would probably take you more time to get that going than to just run the BACKUP statement

Second suggestion. Let is crash without the business critical DB and they can learn their lesson for not having a proper disaster recovery model in place for this type of thing
