SQL Backup not working

I seem to be having a problem with SQL Backup.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I can go into Enterprise Manager and set up the backups, either from databases or from management.<br><br>They show being scheduled, but they do not run.<br><br>Anyone have any thoughts?<br><br>Glenn Abelson<br><A HREF="mailto:gra@abelson.com">gra@abelson.com</A>

Does anything show up in the logs (such as a failure)?<br><br>Have you tried running it manually once to ensure it runs without error?<br><br>Do you have another backup system (like an OS-level backup, like BackupExec) running in the background on the server?&nbsp;&nbsp;This has happened to me, and I found that the other backup program, though not actually running a backup but loaded in memory, had locked the tape drives. <p>Robert Bradley<br><a href=mailto: > </a><br><a href=

I can backup manually.<br>I can backup to arcserve/sql manually as well, but not automatically.<br><br>This is a client machine.&nbsp;&nbsp;I will check the logs when I can.

Check to be sure that the SQLServerAgent service is running.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is the service that manages scheduled jobs.&nbsp;&nbsp;If it is not running, you will be able to create scheduled jobs and run backups manually but nothing will run automatically.

Check the names of your backup devices.&nbsp;&nbsp;If your backups have any characters in their name that Windows does not like in it's filenames, then the backup won't run because windows can't create the backup file as the name will contain invalid characters
