SQL Backup Hangs

Remote desktop to restart a sql backup job using .bch files. Before the job finishes I disconnect from my remote desktop session. When viewing from the master server activity monitor the job hangs. Just wanted to confirm if this is because I ended the remote desktop session before the backup finished. Thanks.

What happens if you don't disconnect, does it run to completion?
