Is it possible to use a sql parameter to first limit the data and then follow up with a dynamic parameter?

CRXIR2 with CRXIR2 server and SQL 2005
CR2008 with CR2008V1 Server and SQL 2005

You could use a parameter in a command, which is a sql statement, then use a parameter in the report itself.
