Ok, so I'm configuring SQL backups for my customer. No brainer really, just a repeat of a hundred similar configurations I've implemented before.
TSM BA Client 5.4.2.0
TSM for Databases (SQL) 5.4 (so 5.2.1.0 really)
Anyway, I fire up the SQL GUI and attempt to display TSM server information - this is usually how I get the password prompt I need to code the password into the registry (passwordaccess generate). What happens? A very strange error:
ANS0282E (RC168) Password file is not available.
Never seen this before, and the Messages Guide would be more helpful if I had a printed copy under my wobbly table leg.
Tried uninstalling all the code and deleting the remnants left behind on the FS and in the registry, reinstalled, same again.
IN desperation, I tried the "Change TSM Password..." option in the utilities menu, just to see if the security exchange would work at all.
To my complete surprise, not only did the password change work, it also successfully encrypted the password into the registry and all is now working beautifully.
Weird.
Have Fun !
