We have a SQL 7 database bigger than 30Gb and I think the the thing is slowly but shurely falling over with constant locks. Can anyone please give me some indication if that size is still quite acceptable for SQL 7... Many thanks

I have had DB 2 to 3 times larger than that will no ill-effects. Locking is not usually due to size but more towards poorly written applications, jobs, stored procedures, functions ...

Thanks

And add to that ... an initially poorly designed DB structure.

Thanks

I would suggest doing checking the transactions via the sql profiler and letting the profile make potential index recommendations. There is a fair amount of information also available via sql showplan.
