Is Access 97 a good match for a front end app using SQL 7 as database server? (the tools I have). I am currently using a split app using Access for front(on client pcs) and back (data only). I need to migrate and am wondering if SQL 7 will be a good upscale option. Will ODBC be the method of connection or is there a faster way to create the link between the SQL data and the app? My experience with ODBC is rather sluggish when linking with large amounts of data, but this is maybe due to the database in SQl not being efficient (third party app). I need some solid advise before undertaking such a task.... HELP is most appreciated!!!!!!

yes it will work fine. You are right that the database design is critical to how fast the operation of the system is. SQL Server is fast and designed for large records, so you should try to do most of the processing on the SQL side. Use stored procedured instead of Access queries. A;lso you should carefully look at indexing your tables and schedule any jobs that you can during off peak hours.
