sql 7 and sql 2000 - can they run on the same machine?

Yes.

It is a lot easier if you install 7 first.

Then install 2000 as a second instance of sql server, just follow the directions in the install.

Note: The 2000 instance will end up using a different port than the standard sql server port (since 7 is using that one).

You may need to do some configuration on your client machines so they can access the 2000 instance.
