I want to move a database device from one drive to another (due to space issues). I am wondering is the best way to do this to drop the database device, move the database device file from one drive to another, and then re-add the device? Are there any better ways? or issues with doing it that way. I am thinking that I would not have to cycle SQL Server in order to get this to take effect, and users could still be in other databases on this server while this was done. Is that a correct assumption?

Thanks

G

This is on SQL Server 6.5 with Service Pack 5a (NT4/SP6)

Sorry. I didn't read the subject very well did I? It has been a long time since I worked with SQL 6.5. You can use the system stored procedure sp_movedevice. See the following SQL FAQ for details.
