It sounds like a problem with the Windows 2003 SP2 release, not a problem with SQL Server. SQL Server doesn't use forms, so he did post the error in the correct forum.

However, since it involves a connection to SQL, he should check and see what code he has on those forms that could be running into a firewall issue or functionality in the OS that the SP2 might have turned off. His best bet is to locate the SP2 Fix List and see if any of those items relate to the code he has on his forms.

Catadmin,

Not quite following you really.

One server is Windows server 2003 R1 the other is windows 2000.

The code is perfect as it works fine on the 2k - there are no firewalls in between. SP2 isnt causing any issue - there is no SP2... SP1 is the highest 2003 SP.

There seems to be either something on the OS or something on the version of SQL/MDAC due to the OS.

Sorry - i also forgot to add.

There is also a R2 server with SP1 which is also running it fine.

This is what I was refering to about the Service Pack issue. He says both servers are 2003 servers.

And yes, I believe it's an OS issue, but I can't tell you want it is. Best bet is to look at the differences between Windows 2003 & 2000 to see what services were turned off, what security policies were implemented differently, etc. It could be so many things I have no idea where to tell you to start.

Thanks for your help - but i am still confused.

functionality in the OS that the SP2 might have turned off.

What service pack? Both the 2003 servers have windows SP1 and SQL SP4. One is Windows server 2003 Release1 the other is Windows server 2003 release2.

There is also a windows 2k server with SQL SP4.

The only server which doesnt work is Windows server 2003 Release1. So i am not too sure what SP you are talking about that could cause the issue.

So to clarify.... all have SQL SP4

Windows server 2000 - works
Windows server 2003 R2 SP1 - Works
Windows server 2003 R1 SP1 - Fails

So its not necessarily the differences between any SP or even 2000/2003. Its the different releases. Which is why i thought it may be something to do with SQL/MDAC or something similar.

Thanks for your help - and i hope all is clarified now.

Okay, let me re-iterate since you don't seem to understand.

My original post was based on the premise that you had a server with Win2003 SP1 and a server with Win2003 SP2 as stated in your friend's post. Obviously I misunderstood what he meant by the phrase "release", thinking what he meant was Service Pack. HOWEVER, it could still be an OS issue.

Check with Microsoft's tech support and see if you can get them to answer your question or check TechNet on their website to see what changed between the different releases. That's the best advice I can give you. We cannot help you with this problem in this forum as the issue does not appear to be SQL Server related.
