I uninstalled SQL Server 2014, then installed SQL Server 2016. However the install program still believes my default instance MSSQLSERVER still exists. There are no program files for MS SQL Server, and none of the SQL services show up in control panel.
I looked in the registry as well and could not find anything that looked like a SQL instance name.
So why does SQL think there is still a default instance and how do I get past this?
