SQL 2008 R2 install stops after installing setup support files

On a windows 7 ultimate workstation, I am attempting to install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 developer edition. I ran the system configuration checker which returned no errors.

I then ran the new installation or add features to an existing installation. I entered the license key, accepted the license agreement, and the setup support files were installed. Then it stopped completely.

Any ideas why this is not installing?
