Hi,

Can someone advise on the correct licensing that we need? We currently have a W2K2 server domain. We want to install SQL 2008 on one of our servers as an upgrade to the existing SQL 2000 Standard install. The server processor is a single processor with 4 cores. We will be running an application on the server that will be accessed by approx 8 users (max) in one go.

What's the best licensing model for this? We don't need the functionality of the enterprise version. I figured the Standard would do us but then saw the Standard for small business advertised. What's the difference?? Will this upgrade from 2000 standard?

Also would the workgroup edition do us or is this "exactly what it says on the tin" and for use in workgroup environments and not domains?

As you may have guessed my exposed to SQL licensing is limited to say the least.

Thanks.

The Workgroup edition will probably be fine for you. It will work fine in a workgroup or in a domain.

The Small Business Edition comes with the Workgroup edition and not the Standard Edition.
